Hello! I have my three book reviews ready for September! These books were all mystery/thrillers, which are my favorite!
The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry

I have read a few books from this author and I really like her writing, so I was excited for this one.
Hannah and Christopher are a happily married couple who work at a hospital together. One day, an abandoned 6 year old little girl named Janie shows up. Christopher and Hannah have always wanted to have children, and Janie instantly forms a bond with Christopher, so they decide to adopt her. Hannah starts to realize Janie’s erratic behavior and angry tantrums are always directed at her, as she cannot bond with Janie. Christopher does not see that side of Janie and he doubts Hannah’s feelings. They soon find out the truth about Janie’s past, and it may be enough to break up their family.
The House We Grew Up In by Lisa Jewell

I’ve read a ton of Lisa Jewell’s books, she is one of my favorite authors in the thiller genre. Her books are always told with several points of view, and always include twists and turns. However, this book wasn’t the best. While the characters were developed, there were points where the book lagged and the twists were predictable.
The Bird family is made up of hippy free spirit mom Lorelai, quiet husband Colin, two daughters Meg and Beth, and twins Rory and Rhys. They seem to live a happy life, but then tragedy strikes one Easter weekend. The event is so tragic that it tears the family apart. Now grown up, the children have their own lives and families. Something happens, and they all have to return home, and they soon find out the real truth of what happened that Easter weekend all those years ago.
The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins

This book is a modern take on Jane Eyre, which I love, so I was excited for this one.
Jane is a dog walker for a very wealthy neighborhood. Her clients live in mansions and lead such different lives than Jane is used to. No one notices Jane stealing things from their houses, or even bothers to look into Jane’s past. She meets Eddie, one of the residents in the neighborhood who was recently widowed. Jane and Eddie soon fall for each other, and Jane isn’t sure that she will ever measure up to the other neighborhood women, or if they’ll ever know the secrets she keeps.
Although this book was pretty predictable, it was very entertaining, and at times, suspenseful.
What have you read this month?
Thanks for reading xx
